Volition Social Jam
Hosted by Dan
4th Monday of each month from 07:00 – 08:30PM
Come to Cherish on the 4th Monday of each month for a Volition Social jam.
Easy to learn, hard to master.
If you’ve never played before, you can be taught in 5 minutes on the night.
Volition is a local Christchurch designed board game where four players compete to obtain the Enigma by setting intentions, and manipulating trajectories on the board.
This is a game of strategising, calculating, misdirection, and collaboration.
Given that Volition is a 4-player game, there may be times when all participants are unable to be at a board. We will always have other locally designed games available to play, as well as some classics.
Volition is currently being designed as a digital multi-dimensional universe simulator. If this interests you, ask Dan at the event.

Created and based at Cherish we are a group of singers who come together to sing simple, gentle, beautiful songs for connection, relaxation, healing and comfort. For ourselves, for anyone in need and in particular for those who are dying and their carers.
We are a chapter of the International, American based Threshold Choir organisation
While we are currently closed to new members we are happy to put your details on our waiting list and contact you later this year when we offer open sessions.
In the meantime we are available to sing to people in palliative care, either at home or hospice/hospital. Visitors can come to our Tuesday early evening sessions by arrangement to experience the peace and nurturing of being gently sung to. We also offer Song Baths for groups at your venue or ours.
There is no cost for any of these, donations/koha are accepted and optional.
To find out more, go onto our email list for Song Baths or be put on the waiting list phone/text Lee 0275 874 686 or email cherish.threshold@gmail.com
Crash Course Dharma
Tuesday nights
7:00pm-8:30pm
This course is designed to help you take ownership of a personal meditation practice and build confidence in your own inquiry.
We will be working with breathing meditation, with plenty of space to learn together through regular questions and answers.
We will also explore the landscape of Buddhist philosophy, tracing the foundations through the three vehicles of practice. Each week will focus on a different aspect of the philosophy, providing you with a conceptual framework to support practice.
In keeping with tradition, the teachings are offered freely, with an opportunity to offer dana (generosity) in the form of a donation if you wish to give back.
Hosted by: CR (Candy) Green
We will meet on Wednesdays from 2 to about 3.30 PM around the dining room table at Cherish to discuss, respond to prompts, and write your own poetry if you’d like to! Attendance at every session is not a requirement; join whatever dates you can.
CR (Candy) Green, an American transplant to Aotearoa, has experienced life through writing lyrics, short stories, creative non-fiction and poetry. Last year here in Christchurch a chapbook was published by ngapukapukapekapeka press. Her writing has found publishing homes in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia.
There’s no cost to attend, but donations to support Cherish are always warmly appreciated.
No registration required, just show up!

Weaving as a Celebration of Life
Have you always been keen to learn to weave a basket with the twining technique?
Basket Weaving using the twining technique is one of the worlds oldest crafts, with evidence suggesting it predates pottery and textiles. As civilisations advanced so did the Art of Basketry.
I have been pondering my journey with Basketry and the natural connection with indigenous culture.
Basketry to the Yolnu people of Arnhem land Australia is a way of connection to the land as a celebration of Life. The connectness to the land is reciprocal.
They love the land and it loves them
They care for the land and it cares for them
They honour the land and it honours them
In this celebration they know a seamless integration
of who they are as the one living field of Aliveness.
When I teach you how to weave a basket using the twining technique that has been passed down through many cultures across the globe you have an opportunity to weave into the same global consciousness of Interconnectednes.
I will teach you to weave a basket and the basket may surprise you with what it teaches you.
That is why this is more than a weaving workshop!
Half Day Workshop
In this half day workshop you will learn basic basketry skills to become a sovereign sustainable weaver!
You will learn how to weave a basket from plant fibres in our local environment. Weaving Fibres will be supplied
Come along to one or both half day workshops as best suits you. They are priced individually for this reason.
Tuition will include –
How to start a basket
How to add in a Weaver and core fibres
How to shape the basket
How to complete the Basket
How to forage for weaving fibres

A koha of $70 covers all costs
A koha of $90 covers all costs for yourself and gifts a space for another
