Join us on the third Monday of each month for an evening of community connection and shared inspiration through books. Each month we’ll get together and speak to the delightful and thought-provoking books that we’ve been reading. 

Whether you’ve recently finished a great read, want to discover something new, or simply enjoy talking about ideas, you’re welcome to come along.

You are welcome to participate in a book swap, borrow books from the Cherish library, or just bring along a book you’ve enjoyed and tell us what made it meaningful for you.

We’ll provide cups of tea and a few snacks to share. Kitchen facilities are also available if you’d like to heat up your dinner while you’re here.

Volition Social Jam

Come to Cherish on the 4th Monday of each month for a Volition Social jam.
Easy to learn, hard to master.
If you’ve never played before, you can be taught in 5 minutes on the night.

Volition is a local Christchurch designed board game where four players compete to obtain the Enigma by setting intentions, and manipulating trajectories on the board.
This is a game of strategising, calculating, misdirection, and collaboration.

Given that Volition is a 4-player game, there may be times when all participants are unable to be at a board. We will always have other locally designed games available to play, as well as some classics.

Volition is currently being designed as a digital multi-dimensional universe simulator. If this interests you, ask Dan at the event.

Qigong for Winter
Tuesdays 3-4pm at Cherish or on Zoom

Created and based at Cherish we are a group of singers who come together to sing simple, gentle, beautiful songs for connection, relaxation, healing and comfort. For ourselves, for anyone in need and in particular for those who are dying and their carers.

We are a chapter of the International, American based Threshold Choir organisation

While we are currently closed to new members we are happy to put your details on our waiting list and contact you later this year when we offer open sessions.

In the meantime we are available to sing to people in palliative care, either at home or hospice/hospital. Visitors can come to our Tuesday early evening sessions by arrangement to experience the peace and nurturing of being gently sung to. We also offer Song Baths for groups at your venue or ours.

There is no cost for any of these, donations/koha are accepted and optional.

We’d like to invite you to a new monthly gathering at Cherish: the Cherish Town Hall. It’s a space for open conversation, shared reflection, and collective imagining rooted in the care and collaboration that already lives here, and oriented toward what wants to emerge next.

A town hall, in this sense, is a regular open gathering where people who care about a place come together to share what they’re noticing, name what’s needed, and explore ideas and possibilities for projects that want to emerge in and through the space. It’s less about presentations or decisions being handed down, and more about listening, collective sense-making, and shaping direction together.

The aim is for this to become a community-created space, shaped by those who show up and step in.

We look forward to seeing what becomes possible when we step into caring for this place together.
